Recently I had the opportunity to attend a benefit concert at the Cerritos Performing Arts center entitled "Miracles." In an effort to bring greater awareness to the need for Asian bone marrow donors, A3M or Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches asked a host of talented Filipino stars for their help and they all came.
The concert's main attraction was the "Concert King," Mr. Martin Nievera who combined humor and soul to give the predominately Pinoy crowd a great evening. It was also nice to see the former American Idol finalist Jasmine Trias donate her time by belting out a few songs, one of which was with Marin that brought the crowd to its feet. The triple threat of Three of a Kind performed in perfect harmony and the crowd was treated to a beautiful cameo by the Los Angeles Filipino Madrigal Signers.
In all, it was an inspiring sight. Pinoy talent combined with Pinoy generosity all to help people they probably would never meet or see they just wanted to help. This night and this cause were especially moving for me as a bone marrow transplant saved my little brother's life.
Diagnosed with Leukemia, my brother Roah was near certain death when a bone marrow donation from our sister Casey resulted in a Miracle, Roah survived and now has been cancer free for many years. This is a worthy cause and I would encourage all to call or contact the A3M association to give and to save a life.
As an attorney who works with the Filipino community and with the stars mentioned previously there came a moment during the concert that I felt a certain Pinoy Pride and I realized that when people do work together and share a common hope that miracles do happen.
