It doesn't help the cause for citizenship of immigrants when immigration officials happen to be corrupt. One Southern California immigration officer has been charged with taking of thousands of dollars (along with egg rolls) from prospective immigrants apparently in the form of bribes. This official is now facing up to 15 years in federal prison for the alleged actions.
This was not the first case of this kind in California. According to the Los Angeles Times, four immigration officers were also charged with bribery and fraud back in May. There are stories of immigration officers offering citizenship in return for drugs, and other officials purportedly received round-trip airline tickets to Thailand and electronic gadgetry.
It is not worthwhile for immigrants to seek entrance to the United States in this manner. For one, such officials cannot be trusted. For two, being arrested as a part of a bribery scheme virtually assures that any immigrant involved will never achieve citizenship in the United States. And three, it will be far less costly from a financial perspective if one attempts to enter the United States legally.
If anyone seeks citizenship, please seek the advice of reputable attorneys that understand the area of immigration and who will guide you through the correct legal channels. It's because the requirements do seem so overwhelming that individuals are willing to take the steps of attempting to bribe officials. Attorneys can offer a large number of options for workers, family members and others hoping to make America their permanent home.
